About Us

Built for Preservation. Built to Last.

Historic Window Replicas LLC specializes in custom wood window replicas and replacement sash for historic buildings throughout Florida.

What We Do

Historic Window Replicas LLC builds custom wood window replicas, replacement sash, and historic door replicas for preservation properties throughout Florida. Our work is focused on a single discipline: reproducing the original windows of historic buildings with accuracy, using materials and construction methods appropriate to the work.

We work with homeowners, architects, historic preservation consultants, general contractors, and institutional property managers. Our projects range from single-window replacements on private residences to multi-window programs for museums, churches, civic buildings, and commercial properties in historic districts.

Every project begins with documentation of the original windows — measuring dimensions, recording profiles, and assessing what can be preserved and what must be replicated. We build only what needs to be replaced, and we build it to match what was there.

Premium Sapele hardwood grain — the primary material for historic window replicas

Why Sapele

Our window replicas are built primarily from premium Sapele hardwood. Sapele's interlocking grain structure produces dimensional stability that resists the seasonal movement — swelling and shrinking with humidity — that causes wood windows to bind or develop gaps over time. This stability is particularly valuable in Florida's humid subtropical climate.

Sapele accepts paint and finish exceptionally well, producing a smooth, durable surface. Its natural resistance to decay adds a margin of durability for windows exposed to Florida's rain and humidity. For painted architectural millwork in a demanding climate, Sapele is an excellent choice.

Preservation First

The first consideration for any deteriorated historic window should always be repair and preservation of the original material. Original historic windows carry irreplaceable architectural and historical value, and preservation is preferable to replacement whenever it is reasonably achievable.

When original components cannot be saved, we build replicas that match the original in dimensions, profiles, materials, and construction methods. We do not substitute simulated divided lites for true divided lites, and we do not substitute modern joinery methods for traditional mortise-and-tenon construction. The replica should read as original to the building.

Historic District and Preservation Review

We have experience working with historic preservation boards, State Historic Preservation Office review processes, and local historic district review committees throughout Florida. We can provide documentation of materials, construction methods, and dimensional accuracy to support preservation review submissions.
